It is with a heavy heart that I tell you we lost a friend and colleague suddenly last week. Justin Falgione, a father, husband and friend, passed on Wednesday. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette obituary and guest book are here.
Over 9 years with FreeMarkets and Ariba, Justin earned the love and respect of his colleagues and customers. He was a mentor to many of us. And, while his passing will leave a hole in Ariba and our hearts, his good will, knowledge, and passion will live on in the many lives he has touched.
If you never had the privilege of working with Justin, you’re probably not aware of his deep expertise in all areas of indirect spend. His command of the facts and understanding of the trends in the industry was a huge benefit to our company and customers.
If you are interested in reading some of Justin Falgione’s work, I’ve included some links below.
- Three of the Top 5 Categories to Source Now webinar were researched and presented by Justin, including #4 Travel Management, #2 Temporary Labor and #1 IT.
- Supplier Site Visits 3 part series, Dietra Curry wrote with the help of Justin’s research.
- Category Chatter podcast on Indirect Spend hosted by Jason Busch.
Times like these certainly put things in perspective. Although the relationships we form in our working lives start through mutual respect, roles and expertise, they often evolve into deep, lasting friendships. At the end of the day, whether someone is a coworker in the next cube over that you consider a friend or a business partner you’ve never actually met face to face, but talk with regularly on the phone and email, it’s about personal relationships.
If I could be so bold, I’d like to say we should all aspire to treat everyone in our professional lives with honesty, integrity and respect. That’s how Justin did it. And we should all do our best to fill that void his passing leaves behind.
