SupplyNow Podcast Features Supply Management All-Stars

April 9th, 2007 · by Tim Minahan · 1 Comment · On Demand/SaaS, best practices, supply management

It’s not often that you can get some of the best-known supply management minds together. So, when the occassion arises, you have to capitalize on it. That’s just what Jason Busch and I did with the latest episode of the SupplyNow podcast series.

For this episode, we threw out the format in favor of an extended roundtable discussion with Doug Smock, Robert Rudzki, and Stephen Rodgers, long-time procurement executives and market watchers and co-authors of On Demand Supply Management: World Class Strategies, Practices, and Technology. This no-holds-barred conversation takes a candid look at supply management advances and how far the discipline still has to go.

Long-time CPO hobnobber Smock reveals the advanced sourcing and supplier management approaches and technologies that leading organizations are using today. Ex-procurement execs Rudzki and Rodgers offer first-hand insight into why driving transformation and technology adoption can be so challenging. They also share their own experiences on how to successfully drive supply management improvements.

[...] On-Demand Supply Management: World Class Strategies, Practices, and Technology by Doug Smock, Bob Rudzki, and Stephen Rogers: The sequel to the best-selling Straight to the Bottomline, this tome examines the increasingly important role technology is playing in accelerating supply management transformation. Their take is that technology will support supply management in four areas: 1) Data integration across all functions, division, and companies. 2) Mathematics that allow deep analysis across those boundaries (e.g., optimization). 3) Economics that allow widespread e-tool use (e.g., On Demand/SaaS). 4) Technology applications that extend and integrate supply processes. The book is chock full of case studies on how leading supply management operations have leveraged technology to improve their spending analysis, strategic sourcing, contract management and supplier management operations. Check out my review of the book here. Or tune into the podcast with the book’s authors. [...]
